Volunteer Spotlight: Tyler "Z" Gouvan

At Camp Casco, our volunteers help create the magic that makes camp such a meaningful experience for children and families. Through their dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to show up for campers each year, they help build a community where everyone feels supported, included, and celebrated. Today, we're excited to shine a spotlight on Tyler "Z" Gouvan, a volunteer whose passion for education, service, and connection has made him a valued member of the Camp Casco family.

Outside of camp, Tyler is a 7th Grade Science teacher who spends his days inspiring young minds in the classroom. For Tyler, volunteering at Camp Casco has reinforced many of the values that guide both his personal and professional life:

"Camp Casco has made me realize my love for educating and working with youth," he says. "It has also helped me stay persistent in my own career goals. Watching these kids face challenges and keep moving forward is incredibly inspiring. It reminds me that if they can do it, so can I."

That sense of inspiration is one of the many reasons Tyler keeps coming back to camp. While the activities and traditions are certainly memorable, it's the relationships and moments of genuine connection that mean the most to him.

"To see the kids' faces light up when we do camp traditions, sing songs, or are just hanging out together makes it feel like a family," Tyler shares. "It makes giving my time 100% worth it."

Creating those moments of joy is something Tyler and our other volunteers value deeply. Whether he's participating in activities, cheering on campers, or simply spending time talking and laughing with them throughout the day, he enjoys helping create an environment where every camper feels welcomed and supported.

One of Tyler's favorite memories comes from his very first year volunteering at Camp Casco!

It’s a story that perfectly captures the unpredictable and fun-filled nature of camp life:

"We were out kayaking as a camp, and kids kept getting stuck in the cove area," he recalls with a laugh. "I had to keep towing them back, and I ended up doing that for what felt like the entire afternoon!"

While it may not have been the relaxing kayaking trip he expected, the experience has become one of his favorite camp memories and a reminder that some of the best moments come from stepping in to help when needed.

As both an educator and a volunteer, Tyler understands the importance of creating spaces where young people feel encouraged to be themselves. His positive attitude, willingness to lend a hand, and genuine care for campers help make Camp Casco the supportive and uplifting community it strives to be each summer.

From towing kayaks across a cove to singing camp songs at the top of his lungs, Tyler brings enthusiasm and heart to everything he does. His commitment to helping young people learn, grow, and have fun shines through in every interaction, and we are grateful for the impact he continues to have on our campers.

Thank you, Tyler, for sharing your time, energy, and passion with Camp Casco.

We are proud to have you as part of our camp family and look forward to seeing all that you accomplish in the years ahead, both at camp and as you pursue your dream of becoming a veterinarian!
