Keeping Camp Safe So Kids Can Be Kids
Our hearts are with the entire Camp Mystic community following the recent flooding in Texas. We can only imagine how heartbreaking it must be to see a place meant for laughter and healing affected in such a way. At Camp Casco, we stand in support of the families, campers, and staff as they navigate the aftermath of such an unexpected event.
We believe that every child deserves a camp experience that is not only magical but also safe. As we prepare to welcome our campers this season, we’re taking every step to ensure that safety remains at the heart of all we do.
Each camp is equipped with NOAA weather radios, which provide direct alerts from the National Weather Service. These radios don’t rely on a cell signal, meaning we can receive critical weather updates regardless of our location. This gives us time to act quickly and calmly when needed.
When our campers are tucked in at night, every cabin counselor has a walkie-talkie, allowing our team to respond promptly to any issues that may arise overnight. Communication is always open and immediate.

Additionally, all camp counselors and medical volunteers receive training in evacuation procedures specific to their respective campsite. We practice these plans with intention and care, so that in the face of any emergency, our team is ready to act confidently and compassionately.
We understand how much trust it takes to send your child to camp, and that trust means everything to us. By staying prepared, connected, and grounded in our mission, we aim to provide every camper with a safe, joyful, and healing experience they deserve.
