Johnson City native swimming 14 miles for charity

Johnson City native Daniel Chang is going to swim 23K (14.29 miles) over a two-day period next month to raise money for Camp Casco in Massachusetts.

The camp is for pediatric cancer survivors and patients to be able to enjoy a week long camp and not have to think about their cancer or treatments for a week. 

Chang, who is set to graduate from Harvard on Thursday, volunteered at the camp last year and was set to do a 23 kilo meter hike with nine other people as a fundraiser. But the hike was canceled because of COVID-19. 

Chang, a three-time state champion in swimming at Science Hill, instead chose to swim 23 kilo meters on Watauga Lake in June.

His goal is to raise $1,600, which is how much it costs to send one kid to camp for a week. But if he is able to raise more than that, he can help send more kids to camp.
