Rick Whitacre from Team Spam shares his favorite memories as a Trail Blazer.

Congrats on being our top fundraiser this year! How did you approach fundraising for Camp Casco? 

I've been fortunate to be involved with Camp Casco for several years. Trail Blazers (part of Hike for Hope) is among the many fun and rewarding programs that Camp Casco has to offer, in addition to Golf for Good and Ride for Resilience. There's something for anyone who wants to do something active, and I've really enjoyed participating in Trail Blazers each year to date.

Where did you do your Trail Blazers hike, and who was on your team?

Our hike was around Lake Sonoma in Northern California. Our Team included Colleen and Jim DelGiorno.

What has been your favorite hike you’ve done as a Trail Blazer?

All three hikes I have done as a Trail Blazer have been fun! I hiked from our house in Saratoga, CA, over the Santa Cruz Mountains to the ocean one year and in the hills in Ireland another. All of the hikes have been fun and rewarding!

What would you tell someone who is thinking about signing up for next year’s Trail Blazers?  

Just do it!! It's so fun to be part of fundraising for this amazing organization.

What does being a Trail Blazer mean to you? How do you think this program positively impacts our campers? 

It's wonderful to be able to raise money for Camp Casco AND stay in shape!! Being able to send campers to Camp Casco at no cost to their parents is so important.

What advice would you give to next year’s Trail Blazers?

Stay positive, train well, and don't forget to hydrate!!! Use social media to fundraise and don't be shy about hitting up friends and family!
